The Townshend Acts (1767)

The Townshend Acts were a series of acts created by Charles Townshend in order to decrease Britain's national debt.

The New York Restraining Act

The government of New York was suspended after they refused to comply with the Quartering Act.

Customs Service Reorganization

This created a new Board of Customs Commissioners stationed in Boston, authorized writs of assistance for use in discovering contraband and created new Admiralty Courts in Boston, Philadelphia and Charleston.

Townshend Duties Act

An external tax was created, since the colonists objected to the internal Stamp Act, on paint, paper, glass, lead and tea imported into the colonies.
